I got the chance to ride an Electric Motorcycle, here is my report....

I saw a photo posted on a different forum, a rider there saw an electric motorcycle in the parking lot. Then I saw Warren's post on our forum, he posted a video the same motorcycle on Jay Leno's garage.

I Googled "Zero Motorcycle" to find out more. Which finally lead me to get a test ride, when you get this months "Star" you will see the article that sprang from that test ride.

I put together this video report to go along with the article

    I hope you enjoy...

The stock set up was quoted to go up to 60 mph.

I out weigh the bike by 40 /- pounds and was only able to go a max 54 mph.

There are optional sprockets that can give you more, but as an in town commuter there is more than enough power there.

The fact that it is an electric motor means that you have the full amount of torque instantly. As well as consistently all the way through the power band. What I am getting at it that there was no delay in getting up to speed, it was equal in terms of get up and go acceleration to the Honda Nighthawk 250 I rented last spring. The Honda had a high end of 66mph (WOT) with me on it, and went well over a 100 mpg. For less than half the cost new.

It was very quiet too, I would have loved to cruise through the forest preserve on it, but the chance did not present itself.

They added a class of electric motorcycles to the Isle on Mann races this year. The Zero rep told me that they can be set up to run much much fast but you sacrifice greatly on the distance you can go on a single charge.
